But an emotional October 23 return to Old Trafford could still be on the cards if Uefa decide not to extend his ban.

Ronaldo, 33, was reduced to tears after being sent off for an off-the-ball incident against Valencia on his return to Spain.

TV replays showed he appeared to grab the hair of defender Jeison Murillo after a slight coming together in the hosts' box.

The Valencia ace immediately squared up to Ronaldo before referee Felix Brych gave the ex-Real Madrid star his marching orders.

Ronaldo's one-match ban cannot be appealed and aUefa disciplinary panel will decide whether there should be any additional punishment.

Uefa regulations state: "A player who is sent off the field of play is suspended for the next match in a Uefa club competition.

"In case of serious offences, the Uefa Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body is entitled to augment this punishment, including by extending it to other competitions."

Juventus were able to leave the Mestalla with a 2-0 win thanks to two Miralem Pjanic penalties.

Despite the winning start, Ronaldo was left furious.

Team-mate Leonardo Bonucci said: "As far as I could see, it was a pretty normal clash.

"Murillo put his hands on Ronaldo first, he reacted, but these things can happen and we must be stronger than everyone and everything.

Ronaldo was angry, of course. The referee saw what he saw not very well and we overcame the obstacles."

Old Lady boss Max Allegri urged Uefa introduce VAR in order to get the best refereeing decisions.

He said: "I can only say that VAR wouldve helped the referee in this decision.

"Going down to ten men in the Champions League for an incident like that is disappointing.

We risked losing tonight with this and well miss him for the next games too.

Ronaldo's sister, meanwhile, leapt to the defence of her five-time Ballon d'Or winning brother.

Katia Aveiro posted a picture of Ronaldo, captioned: "Shame on football. Justice will be done. Want to destroy my brother. Shameful."
